Manzhou Memories of Wind - Explore The Old Trail of Manzhou Tea/Approximately 3 hours The bumpy old trail of Manzhou tea, stretching across the port to Lide Village, can be dated back before the Japanese colonial period. In this tour, the guide will walk you through the changes of the landscape and share precious memories scattered over the 3-km trail. Along the trail, there are green tunnels, ruins of indigenous tribes, and collapsed old houses…Your guide will share personal anecdotes as well as interesting stories from their childhood in the area. |
Tea at Gangkou/Approximately 3~3.5 hours Many people don’t know that Gangkou, in Hengchun County, is Taiwan’s lowest-elevation tea-growing area! Sitting by the ocean, the plants here enjoy high temperatures along with ocean breeze and chilling winds coming off the mountains, as well as the rich sunlight of the south of Taiwan. On a visit here, you can try your hand at picking and preparing your own tea for a taste of a different tea culture. |
Ecotourism on the Shuiwaku Grasslands/Approximately 1.5~2 hours The residents of Shuiwaku rely on the area’s grasslands to get by, which has made its seemingly endless pasture to become one of Shuiwaku’s defining characteristics. Here you can lie back on the soft grass and let the morning sunlight caress your face, while a gentle breeze whisks away your worries. Come along with our guides through Longpan Grassland and Shuiwaku Ecopond, and you might spot the telltale signs that a Formosan sika deer has visited. |
Deer by Daylight/Approximately 2~2.5 hours Sheding Workstation is the only workstation in Taiwan dedicated to helping Formosan Sika deer numbers recover. If you’re lucky, on a visit to this area—largely untouched as permits are required to enter—you might spot a few of these beautiful, rare creatures! |
Daytime Adventures/Approximately 2~2.5 hours With over 180 hectares of land, Sheding Park is a nature’s classroom with up to 300 different types of plants and more than 50 species of butterflies, animals and insects. Shirding Park Taiwan Ebony Forest Exploration/Approximately 3 hours Commonly known as Taiwan's Ebony, the ebony forest has been protected since the days of the Japanese because of its solid material and high value. It has only become possible to visit this special place in recent years. In the 140-hectare environmental protection zone, the foliage is dense, lush and magnificent. On the way, there are towering trees. This exploration includes a breathtaking journey, views of the Pacific Ocean from the edge of the cliff next to the forest, and views of Jiale Water Coastline and Longan Park. |
Long-Shui Community Red Turtle-shaped Rice Cake Making and Clam Picking/Approximately 2 hours Longshui District is a small ‘land of plenty’ in Hengchun. Community farmers actively promote organic planting of rice by using less polluting and pesticide-free farming techniques to produce the famous “Langjiao Rice.” Take a walk on the organic field that bounces like a spring mattress. Get close to the fish, frogs and clams swimming in the ditch. Then, make and enjoy Red Turtle-shaped Rice Cakes. You’ll experience unique features of this rural area. |
Hengchun Paradise of Deers Feeding/Approximately 2 hours The Lukai Sika Deer Ecological Park enjoys the reputation of Nara (a famous place for deer viewing and feeding in Japan). Known as ‘Kenting Nara,’ the park re-introduces spotted deer on its own farm. Unlike wild deer, the deer in the park like to interact with tourists. Visitors can get up close or feed deer groups at a distance. |

[January Only] Rice Planting in the Organic Paddies of Long-Shui Community/Approximately 3 hours Out of concern for the environment, the farmers of Long-Shui Community have returned to the old ways of farming, cultivating a 16-hectare organic rice farm that produces clean, natural “Long-Shui Organic Langjiao Rice.” Step into the shoes of a farmer and work alongside the locals in the paddies. Experience the fun of planting organic rice yourself! |
[May Only] Harvesting Rice in the Organic Paddies of Long-Shui Community/Approximately 3 hours After soaking up the moisture and nutrients of the soils of Long-Shui Community, the organic rice planted there is ready for harvest. Long-Shui’s environment makes it a rich source of food, which in turn attracts ducks, geese and egrets, making it a must-visit for bird-lovers! |
[May-October Only] Midnight Harbourside Crab Delicacies/Approximately 3~3.5 hours Starting from May, visitors can expect to see large groups of crabs surface near the harbor. Right before the Mid Autumn Festival is the peak mating season, so visitors can often see groups of crabs scurry along the roadside. Follow the crabs along the beach down to the nearby restaurant for a great meal! |
[July-August Only] A Midsummers Night Dream of Fireflies/Approximately 3~3.5 hours Undamaged by humanity, Lide Community is a wonderful place not only to see the stars, but also to be amazed by the massive number of fireflies that call it home. The nighttime here is just as vibrant as daytime, and following close behind our guides, you’ll be sure for a glimpse of the party Mother Nature throws here every night! |
[October Only] Buzzards over Lanren/Approximately 8~8.5 hours Every October, after National Day on the 10th, huge numbers of grey-faced buzzards pass through the skies of the Hengchun Peninsula as they migrate toward Southeast Asia for the winter. This event is a major one for Kenting, and if you’re heading south for vacation after National Day, it is definitely a must-see. |
